2,559 drunken drivers caught in January, 587 jailed

Hyderabad: City Traffic Police was continuing its drive against drunken drivers to ensure road safety. In January, they caught 2,559 drivers, who were driving vehicles in drunken condition. The delinquents were produced in the III and IV Metropolitan Magistrate Courts, Nampally and both the magistrates awarded imprisonment to 587 accused and permanently cancelled/suspended driving licenses of 201 convicts. The courts also realized fine of Rs 55,23,300 on traffic violators. All the convicts were sent to the Chanchalguda Central Jail.

The convicts were also counselled at TTI, Goshamahal and Begumpet. The drive against the drunken driving and other violations will continue for the safety of the commuters on road, the City Traffic Police said.
