PALGHAR: In yet another shameful incident, a 36-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping and marrying a minor girl who happens to be her niece.
This incident took place in Palghar district of Maharashtra, the police said on Wednesday. According to the Palghar police spokesperson Hemant Kumar Katkar, the accused has been identified as Ajay Singh who held his 17-year-old niece captive at his home.
The official stated that the accused allegedly married the victim forcibly and raped her repeatedly between November 2017 and December last year adding that the accused also beat up the girl when she opposed his moves and prevented her from meeting her parents.
The girl managed to escape from his house and approached the police and filed a complaint against the accused. Based on her complaint, the accused was arrested on Wednesday.
A case has been registered against him under sections such as Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), abduction to compel for marriage, rape, voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation.
