According to NDTV, the attack took place following a fight on Sunday when the victim family was getting off a train while some other passengers were trying to get into the same compartment.

According to a complaint registered with the railway police, about 30 people reached there and attacked Afsana Begum’s family members leaving 6 of them injured.

While four of the injured were discharged from AMU’s Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, the other two Shafiq and Fahim were admitted there.

The attackers fled before they could be arrested. According to AMU students, the attackers were outsiders.

The family had come from Kannauj for Afsana Begum’s son Shafiq’s medical treatment.

Calling the incident a “failed attempt at mob lynching” and “a deliberate attempt to foment communal violence”, AMU students, led by former AMU student union president Salman Imtiaz, demanded the arrest of those involved in the attack within 48 hours and a judicial inquiry.
