8 YO raped in open-air-theatre event

Cuttack: Stringent Laws to protect women, children need to be implemented across the nation since the rise in crimes against women, children are only increasing over the past few years.

In a similar case, an eight-year-old minor was allegedly raped at Nemalo of Cuttack district late on Thursday, TOI reports.

The victim had gone to attend watch (open-air theatre) near her village when the incident occurred.

The victim’s family found her lying unconscious under a tree the next morning and rushed her to Nischintakoili community health (CHC).

“The girl was lured by an opera artist, who promised to teach her dance. He took the girl to a deserted place and raped her and dumped her near a bush before fleeing the spot,” said Cuttack rural SP R B Panigrahi.

The victim was later sent to SCB Medical College and Hospital for medical examination.

She is reported to be in stable condition informed Panigrahi.

Taking action in the case, the police have detained some members of the Jatra group for questioning.

The villagers alleged that one of the members of the jatra troupe was involved in the rape.
