Accused stabbed by victim’s cousin, succumbs to injuries

Bengaluru: A rape accused was stabbed to death by the victim’s cousin on Sunday in Dharwad’s Navalgund.

The suspect was a 52-year-old man identified as Hakusab Nadaf allegedly lured the 11-year-old girl victim from Basaveshwar Nagar town and raped her, News18 reports.

The accused was thrashed by the victim’s father and neighbours who saw him take the girl on Saturday evening and was later handing over to the Navalgund Circle police station.

“While the accused was getting treatment, a 25-year-old cousin of the victim came to the hospital around 3pm on Sunday and stabbed the accused. He then tried to flee from the hospital but the police nabbed him. We have registered a case against him under sections 307 and 353 of the IPC,” said Dharwad SP Vartika Kathiyar.

The assault videos have been widely circulated on the internet where the accused can be seen tied to an electric pole and stripped of his garments while the mob thrashes him.

The accused was transferred to KIMS hospital in Hubbali after being stabbed but succumbed to his injuries.

Meanwhile, the victim’s cousin is under judicial custody and was produced before the magistrate.
