Ahead of Ayodhya verdict, worried Muslims sought security

NEW DELHI: Ahead of the Supreme Court verdict in the Ram Janmabhumi-Babri Masjid title dispute case on November 17, apprehensive Muslims in Ayodhya have sought their security and demanded the district administration to deploy central paramilitary forces.

Expressing their concern about safety and repercussions, Muslim representatives, as per reports in Times Of India, also asserted full confidence in the police and administration that no untoward incident will take place.

“We have full faith in the administration and are confident that it will ensure peace and harmony. But the deployment of central paramilitary forces will give more assurance to the community,” Jamiat Ulema Hind, Ayodhya unit general secretary Hafiz Irfaan told TOI.

SSP Faizabad Ashish Tiwari told TOI, “Police have already been deployed in Muslim-dominated localities and central paramilitary forces will also be deployed soon. Civil police and some CRPF personnel are also keeping strict vigil in Muslim-dominated localities.”

“We have asked Muslims not to panic and assured them that peace will not be disrupted in Ayodhya,” said DM Faizabad Anuj Kumar Jha.

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has asked his Ministers to refrain from making any controversial statements on the issue.

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has also held a series of meetings where cadres were asked to refrain from making statements.

When Adityanath went to Ayodhya for the ‘Deepotsav’ on October 26, he met the seers and asked them not to comment on anything controversial.

The BJP will hold meetings with its members in the coming week to discuss the future course of action following the verdict at the disputed 16th-century Babri masjid site that was destroyed by mobs in December 1992.
