Air India fixed cost to repatriate mortal remains from UAE

NEW DELHI: India’s national carrier Air India (AI) has announced a fixed cost of repatriation of mortal remains of Indian expatriates from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The new rates (Dh1,500 for adults and Dh750 under the age of 12) will come into effect from Saturday, January 5 on all flights from the UAE to all sectors across India.

“Now, there will be a fixed charge as per the long-standing request of people here,” a senior official of the airline, who did not wish to be named, said, reported Gulf News.

“It will be a flat rate of Dh1500 on all mortal remains irrespective of destination and weight of the body. There will be a 50 per cent discount in the case of children below 12,” he said.

The source added that Air India has also fixed the freight charges in all the GCC countries. The cost of repatriation from Saudi Arabia at 2,200 Saudi riyals, 2200 Qatari Riyal, Kuwait is at 175 Kuwaiti dinars, 225 Bahraini Dinar for Bahrain and Oman to India is at 160 Omani riyals.
