All for peace with Pak but won’t tolerate violence: Rahul

Dubai: Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday asserted that he approves the idea of a peaceful relationship with Pakistan but will not tolerate violence carried out by the neighbouring country.

Addressing a press conference in Dubai, the Congress chief said, “I am all for a peaceful relationship with Pakistan, but, I will absolutely not tolerate violence being carried out on innocent Indians by the Pakistani state.”

He also criticised the Centre dubbing demonetisation and the Goods and Services Tax (GST) as “ill-advised economic policies”.

“India is facing a 14-year low with regard to investments. A couple of ill-advised economic policies like Demonetisation and GST have vitiated the atmosphere. We will put an end to the anger that has been spread by BJP. The priority today is that current government is failing and we have a massive unemployment crisis. Demonetisation by Prime Minister Modi was a rash and irresponsible action. He was directly responsible for the decimation of the informal sector,” he said.

The Congress chief said, “The BJP is getting very aggressive, intolerant and destroying our institutions. It’s a matter of time we will see it after the 2019 elections.”

Continuing his tirade against the Prime Minister over Rafale deal, Gandhi said, “Prime Minister Modi helped Mr Anil Ambani steal Rs 30,000 crore. I have not yet got the answer for whether Defence Ministry officials objected to the Prime Minister bypassing the Rafale deal.”

He further said that the Prime Minister is attacking the strength of India by strangling our institutions. “We will start to do what Congress party has successfully done; put India on an economic path. I promised to waive farm loans in 10 days and I did it in 2. So I will do everything to give Special Status to Andhra Pradesh as I promised.

Taking a case in point of the ongoing CBI episode, Rahul asserted that there is a massive response coming from bureaucrats and institutions saying that they are not going to accept the Modi government.”

“RSS thinks that voice of the people is irrelevant. One of the reasons why we will win 2019 elections is because there is a massive response coming from bureaucrats and institutions saying we are not going to accept this,” he added.

Talking about the relationship between India and UAE, Rahul said, “Relationship between India and UAE has been an old and a successful one of tolerance and mutual benefits. There is a lot of room for what we can do together.”

Rahul was on a two-day visit to Dubai, where he addressed Indian diaspora yesterday and met with the Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE, HH Sheikh Mohammed.
