Amit Shah’s statement unbecoming of a home minister

New Delhi: Home Minister Amit Shah’s remark regarding immigrants and refugees is being condemned from all quarters. Many term it as a violation of the constitution. Advocate Fazeel Ayyubi, ex-MP and noted journalists Shahid Siddiqui and former MP Ali Anwer Ansari also condemned the statement.

Advocate Ayyubi said NRC was only for Assam. He wondered when there is no threat of infiltration in other states, why the government is talking about NRC in other states. Saying that citizenship law is already there, Mr Ayyubi said it could be political rhetoric.

Shahid Siddiqui said Amit shah should remember that he is the home minister of the country not just president of BJP. Every statement of his as a home minister should be sensible. The statement given by Amit Shah in Calcutta shows hate and division. The statement is like a small leader of BJP and is unbecoming of a home minister, he said.

Amit Shah at a political rally in Calcutta on October 1 said, “I want to assure all Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist and Christian refugees, that you will not be forced to leave India by the Centre. Don’t believe rumours. Before NRC, we will bring the Citizenship Amendment Bill, which will ensure these people get Indian citizenship”.
