Ammonia gas leak at Haldiram’s: 1 dead 300 evacuated

New Delhi: 1 person died while more than 300 others were evacuated after an ammonia gas leak at Haldiram’s building in Uttar Pradesh’s Noida on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as 42-year-old ammonia operator Sanjeev Kumar.

The leakage occurred at around 12 pm on Saturday. Police, firefighters and the National Disaster Response Force came to the rescue.

PTI quoted NDRF Assistant Commandant Anil Kumar Singh as saying “The gas leak had occurred through the valve of one of the four ammonia condensers in the maintenance unit where around 22 people were working and (now) evacuated. One of them was taken to a hospital, where he died later.”

More than 300 other workers who were present in the production unit were evacuated immediately.

Fire fighters sprayed water in the air to neutralise the ammonia.
