AMU Asst. Prof., husband booked for post on Kashmir

Aligarh: Huma Parveen, an assistant professor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) and her husband Nayeem Showkat have been booked for sharing posts on the situation in Kashmir.

A Hindu Mahasabha leader filed an FIR, on the basis of which the couple were booked.

According to Times of India, Aligarh police said that they are probing the case and will file a charge-sheet only if there is some merit in the allegation.

34-year-old, Huma Parveen and her husband who stays in Jammu & Kashmir were booked under sections 153A (promoting enmity) and 505 (2) (statements promoting enmity) of IPC at Aligarh’s Gandhi Park police station.

The complainant, Ashok Pandey, cited a post of Parveen which read, “Sach me sampark toot jana kitna khatarnak and dukhad hota hai? Chahe Chandrayan ho ya Kashmir (Really, losing connection is so dangerous and painful. Whether it is from Chandrayaan, or from Kashmir)” and of her husband Showkat which read: “Toilet is on your mind and Kashmir is in encounter site.”

Parveen was shocked by the registration of the case. She said, “I was heartbroken, as I was not able to contact my husband during the clampdown in the Valley. I had not written anything inappropriate and only shared a few posts written by others.” She added, “I have a young daughter and my emotions of losing connection with family can’t be described in words.”
