Are you Dehydrated? Our pee colour chart will tell you

The urine colour is a useful gauge to measure hydration. Urine varies in colour, depending principally upon a body’s level of hydration, as well as other factors. Normal urine is a transparent solution ranging from colourless to amber but is usually a pale yellow.

You’ve probably noticed the colour changes on a daily, often hourly, basis. Usually, the urine colour changes depending upon the level of hydration in the body.

Colourless urine indicates over-hydration, generally preferable to dehydration (though it can remove essential salts from the body). Dark yellow urine is often indicative of dehydration.

Dehydration is usually caused by not drinking enough fluid. You can also become dehydrated as a result of an illness, such as persistent vomiting and diarrhoea, or sweating from a fever. Drink plenty of fluids such as water, diluted squash or fruit juice if you’re dehydrated.
