Arvind wants enumeration of urban homeless completed by June 10

Hyderabad: MA&UD Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar today asked the officials to complete the enumeration of urban homeless persons in their respective local bodies by the June 10.

Addressing the municipal commissioners, Arvind asked them to procure complete data of the homeless persons so as to provide them birth certificates, Aadhar cards, pensions and bank accounts as well. “The Civic officials have to ensure that none of the shelterless people lack basic facilities”, he said and asked them to ensure that medical check up was regularly conducted for the urban homeless. “The Municipal commissioners should visit the centers regularly and take pride in taking care of all the homeless”, he added.

Officials informed Arvind Kumar that out of 143 urban local bodies in the State, 53 ULBs have shelters and 11,389 residents were staying in these shelters. While 5,807 residents have been provided Aadhar cards, 787 with voter ID cards, 1,555 residents are availing pensions while 3,497 have got ration cards. They also said 136 residents have availed legal advice while 201 shelter residents have enrolled in insurance schemes. Similarly, 694 residents have been referred to Anganwadi centers, 5,728 residents received free food from shelters. Besides, 1,050 health camps have been conducted till date and 129 of them have been referred to hospitals for surgeries. 1,541 residents have opened bank accounts, they added.
