Asaduddin Owaisi on Farooq Abdullah’s detention

Hyderabad: Slamming the Modi government over the detention of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah under the Public Safety Act (PSA), All India Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul-Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief and Lok Sabha MP Asaduddin Owaisi said, “A draconian act is being used against an 80-year-old [Abdullah]…it proves the Centre has messed up everything there [Kashmir].”

The ministry of home affairs on Sunday night, detained Farooq Abdullah under the Public Safety Act, who had been under house arrest since August 5 when the Centre announced abrogation of the special status given to Jammu and Kashmir under Article 370 and bifurcation of the state into Union territories.

Owaisi wondered how Farooq Abdullah, an octogenarian, suddenly became a national threat though PM Modi had met him recently. He said union home minister Amit Shah had told a lie when he told in Parliament that Farooq Abdullah had not been arrested by the government.

Asaduddin Owaisi said it is unfortunate that by detaining Farooq Abdullah under the PSA the government was equating him with separatist leaders like Masarrat Alam.

On Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad being allowed by the Supreme Court to visit Jammu and Kashmir, Owaisi claimed the leader approaching the apex court showed there was no normalcy in Kashmir.
