Bathukamma sarees changed lives of Sircilla weavers

Sircilla: It has become a thing of the past that weavers were committing suicides for non-payment of loans. At least, in Sircilla town, it has proved wrong. The local residents and the weavers who were dying of hunger are now in a position to earn their livelihood due to the large scale orders they got from the governmental agencies for the supply of Bathnukamma sarees.

This has changed the lifestyles of the weavers of Sircilla town.

Mr. KT Rama Rao managed to get huge orders for RVM uniforms and other garments.

During the past three years, the weavers are getting huge orders for supplying Bathukamma sarees.

It may be mentioned that in 2017, 95.48 lakh and in 2018, 99.02 Lakh sarees were ordered.

Normally, the weavers get Rs. 1.25 per meter profit for weaving one-meter cotton or polyester saree. Now, their income has increased by 200%. At the present rates, Rs 8.50 is being paid for weaving one meter of saree cloth.

A weaver who used to earn Rs 7-8 thousand per month earlier, is now getting Rs 16-17 thousand a month. It has helped them clear their loans. They have been paying the school fees of their children and also saving some money for their future needs.
