BJP seeks a judge to probe Telangana state’s power deals

Hyderabad: The State BJP President Dr. Laxman today spoke about irregularities in power purchase agreements made by the KCR Government and demanded a CBI probe into the grave irregularities committed by the State Government.

Addressing a press conference here today Dr Laxman along with senior BJP leaders Chintha Sambhamurthy Dr. Malla Reddy, Karuna Gopal  Rakesh  Reddy and others said that when there are clear guidelines from the Government of India to State Governments to purchase solar power at Rs. 4.50 paise  but the State Government has made agreements for purchase at Rs. 5.50per unit for 2000 MW Questioning the reason behind this additional payment Dr Laxman questioned what mandated the Government to purchase power at higher price when there are rates fixed for the same Centre has also clearly said that if the State Government has to pay extra other then the mandated then as part of viability gap funding the Centre will pay that amount as well.

Dr. Laxman said that despite such a policy why the State Government has made power purchase agreement for Rs. 5.50 for 2000 MW. As a result, there is a loss to the exchequer to the tune of rs. 8000  crores he argued.
The Government has made a power purchase agreement in 2016 but once the agreement is made the power plant should have been commissioned within six months time. IF the time lapses as per the rule the Government should impose a penalty and the tariff has to be negotiated with the concessionaire But here when the concessioner failed to keep up the time schedule  and came after two years the State Government without imposing any penalty or any further negotiations gave permissions. There is a letter from the Chief Minister’s office extending the permissions to the concessionaire causing a huge loss to the State exchequer to the tune of Rs. 10000 crores he said

He further said that the State Government has purchased critical machinery from India Bulls to set up plants in Managuru.  There are clear guidelines from  Centre that subcritical technology plants should not be set up but the State Government went ahead and purchased outdated equipment from India Bulls.
Questioning the Government as to what made the Government to make these purchases ? from India Bulls. He further questioned as to why the State Government had not appointed Election Regulatory Commission so far. Because the ERC will question the misdeeds of the State Government, as a result, there are no public hearings on important issues.

Dr. Laxman, therefore, demanded the State Government to launch an inquiry into the issue of power purchase agreements immediately and also demanded the State Government come clean on the issue by releasing a white paper on how many short term agreements have been made by the Government. How much power was used? How much State Government has paid without even using the power On how many of these agreements the public hearing was conducted. He demanded a CBI probe into the whole issue and said that the BJP will not remain a mute spectator and will go to its logical ends.
