‘Boy on the beach’, among others inspired Anubhav Sinha to direct ‘Article 15’

In this video, ‘Article 15’ director Anubhav Sinha and actress Sayani Gupta talk about all the love and the overwhelming response they have received for the film. Replying to NDTV’s Rohit Khilnani, they tell what inspired the movie and talk about all the positive reviews they got for it.

Director Anubhav Sinha says he was disturbed by lot of things not only in India but abroad. The most striking image that got him angry was the image from Turkish resort, a Syrian boy in a red t-shirt face down in the sand. He cited another incident in which two girls were hanging from a tree. He says all the anger transformed into the plot of the film.

Article 15 is a socio-political drama film, starring Ayushmann Khurrana in the lead role. It is based on the Article 15 of the Indian Constitution, which prohibits discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, sex or place of birth.

The storyline for the film has been inspired from true life events, including 2014 Badaun gang rape and 2016 Una flogging incident.
