#BoycottNirma: Akshay under fire for mocking Maratha warriors

NEW DELHI: Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar has landed in controversy after he featured in a washing powder advertisement, where he plays the role of a king.

A police complaint was filed against Akshay for deeply hurting the sentiments of the Maratha community by allegedly mocking Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in an advertisement for Nirma washing powder.

The advertisement shows Maratha Warriors returning to the palace from a battle.

After this, a woman has expressed her displeasure over the dirty clothes of Maratha Warriors, saying that we have to wash them. To this, Akshay Kumar replies, “Maharaj ki sena apne dushmanon ko dhona janti hai, aur apne kapde bhi”

The advertisement did not go down so well with netizens and soon #BoycottNirma started trending on Twitter.

Bollywood seems to be under fire on social media for many reasons.

After actor Deepika Padukone visited the university to lend solidarity to JNU students against violence, Twitterati began demanding to boycott upcoming her film Chhapaak.
