Hyderabad: Govt. of Telangana is contemplating to convert bus stations into shopping malls and entertainment centers. The plan to assign them a new function is in the pipeline after getting clearance from Telangana High Court to privatize 5100 bus routes. Govt. of TS has started an action plan to implement its new strategy.
Whenever space is available, bus stations would be converted to accommodate theatres, shopping malls, etc.
It is reported that CM of TS, Mr. KCR has sought proposals from RTC officials in this regard.
It may be mentioned that an announcement was made earlier to convert 24 bus stations into mini theaters but no initiative was taken. However, now that the deck is cleared, rethinking is being done. Mr. KCR has asked the officials of RTC to highlight the advantages of the privatization of RTC.
