CAA doesn’t target any community: Kerala Guv Arif Khan

Kochi: Rejecting the statement of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan that the state will not implement the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), Kerala Governor Mohammad Arif Khan said every state has a constitutional obligation to implement the laws passed by Parliament.

While speaking to reporters at Aluva near Kochi, Mr Khan claimed that the amendment did not target any community. He asserted that the protest and agitation against CAA are politically motivated.

The governor’s remark came at a time when Left Democratic Front led by the CPM and the opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) headed by the Congress have jointly announced a protest in the state on Monday against the amendment.

As many of the activist organisations and groups also joining the protest against the CAA, the state is set to witness a series of agitations in coming days. A slew of organisations including several Islamist outfits in the state have called a statewide ‘hartal’ on Tuesday.
