CAA-NRC: With ‘Azaadi’ slogan, Kanhaiya protest Jamia violence

PURNIA: Communist Party leader and former president of JNU Students Union Kanhaiya Kumar is back with his famous Azaadi slogans.

Addressing a massive gathering of over thousand in Bihar’s Purnia district, Kanhaiya raised his “hum leke rahenge azaadi” slogans condemning the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), impending National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the incident of violence in Jamia Millia Islamia.

Sharing the video of slogan on his Twitter account, Kanhaiya wrote that the people of Purnia raised their voice against the suppression of police on the students of the country and the Constitution and the anti-poor CA-NRC. The public is understanding that to suppress their real questions, this government wants to put them in lines outside government offices to prove their citizenship.

In an interview with NDTV, the student leader-turned-politician said the the amended Citizenship Act and the NRC will put every poor citizen in detention centers.

“The government says that the two initiatives will not affect the country’s Muslim citizens. On the contrary, it will affect Muslims as well as every poor citizen who does not have the documents they will demand when the NRC exercise is launched. This will affect all of India.”

Several students were injured in police action during a protest last week by students of Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi.

Earlier, protests were erupted in West Bengal against the Citizenship Amendment Act.

The violence and clashes that erupted following the passing of the Citizenship Amendment Bill excludes Muslims and gives expedited citizenship to Hindu, Christian, Parsi, Sikh, Jain and Buddhist refugees from the officially Islamic Afghanistan and Pakistan and Bangladesh.
