Case lodged against BJP leader for burning posters of Mayawati, Akhilesh during ‘Holika Dahan’

Barabanki: An FIR has been lodged against a senior BJP leader and other leaders others on Saturday for allegedly burning posters of BSP Mayawati and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav during ‘Holika Dahan’ on Wednesday.

The FIR was lodged on Friday night after SP Member Legislative Council, Barabanki Rajesh Yadav filed a complaint alleging that BJP’s senior leader Rambabu Dwivedi along with a few others burnt posters of Mayawati and Akhilesh Yadav and hurled abuses against the two leaders.

“This is the mentality of BJP. These are the same people who called SP-BSP alliance as ‘snake and mole rat’. BJP is the biggest casteist party,” Akhilesh Yadav told ANI.

He had earlier posted on his official twitter handle in Hindi: “The message of this ‘Holika Dahan’ of Barabanki is clear: Dalit and backward society will be crushed in the BJP era as it has been for centuries.”

In the last five years, the humiliation and injustice faced by underprivileged and the backward classes has crossed every limit. Now the BJP will soon see the anger and resentment of bereaved sections.”

The case was registered against accused at Ramnagar Police Station under sections of Indian Penal Code 469, 504, 509, 153-A, sections of SC and section 67 of IT act. The section of 469 for harming reputation, 509 for an intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace and 509 for word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman.
