Washington: A Chinese student was sentenced to serve one year in the federal prison on Tuesday after he pleaded guilty to illegally taking pictures at a key United States defence intelligence facility in Florida.
According to CNN, a federal judge in Key West awarded a 20-year-old, Zhao Qianli, the maximum sentence for photographing a US naval base.
Last year in September, Zhao had entered the Joint Interagency Task Force South military property, which is located on Naval Air Station Key West without permission by “by circumnavigating the installation’s primary fence line, and entering the military property from the beach,” revealed the court papers.
The documents, however, did not give any specific indication to whether the student was attempting to carry out espionage.
