Meerut: The entire global community is reeling under the scare of coronavirus outbreak. The country continues to observe the 21-day lockdown enforced in an attempt to wind down the COVID-19 pandemic. People have confined themselves indoor for remaining untouched from the glare of the deadly virus.
The fear is so strong that the people are not ready to come out and lift the bier of their loved ones. An incident has come to light from Uttar Pradesh’s Bulandshahr where after the death of a Hindu man, his relatives chose to stay inside and did not come out to perform the last rites.
Example of Hindu-Muslim unity
However, setting an example of brotherhood and communal harmony, Muslim neighbours of the man came out and cremated his body as per the Hindu rites. The Muslim neighbours took out the funeral procession and even chanted ‘Ram naam satya hai’ (truth is the name of Lord Ram). The incident is being cited as an excellent example of unity between communities and the way people are coming forward to help each other in these times of distress.
Relatives choose to stay away from a funeral
The deceased man was identified as Ravishankar, a resident of Anand Vihar locality of Bulandshahr. He was battling cancer. The locality is majorly populated by people following the Muslim faith. Ravishankar was from a very poor family. After his demise, his son informed their relatives, friends and other people in the neighbourhood but nobody showed up to cremate Ravishankar. The troubles of the grief-stricken family increased as they could not find anyone to lift Ravishankar’s bier, according to a report of the Navbharat Times.

Muslim neighbours assure to provide help
After some time, a few Muslim neighbours arrived at Ravishankar’s house. They consoled the mourning family and assured all possible help. They started making preparations to cremate the body. They lifted the bier and took out a funeral procession. They even chanted ‘Ram naam satya hai’ during the procession.
