New Delhi: Activist Sharjeel Imam has been alleged to have delivered inflammatory speeches against the CAA and the proposed NRC.
The Delhi Police taking action against his speeches has booked Sharjeel Imam who came in limelight during the ongoing protest in Shaheen Bagh, TOI reported.
Sharjeel Imam a resident of Bihar, delivered “very inflammatory and instigatory speeches in his opposition to CAA and NRC” said the officials.
“He had previously delivered one such speech in Jamia Millia Islamia on December 13 last year and thereafter one even more inflammatory against the government which is being widely circulated on social media,” they said.
These speeches have the “potential to harm the religious harmony,” unity and integrity of India said the Police.
The police have booked Imam under IPC sections 124 A (an offence by words, either spoken or written causes disaffection against Government established by law), 153 A (promoting enmity between different religious groups with an intent to create disharmony) and 505 (statements conducing to public mischief).
While another charge of sedition was also registered against him on Saturday for his speech delivered at the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) campus on January 16.
