Delhi Govt. denies permission to prosecute Kanhaiya Kumar

New Delhi: Delhi police did not receive permission from AAP Govt. to prosecute former Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) President, Mr. Kanhaiya Kumar and nine others.

According to the report published in Times of India, the view of the AAP Govt. will be placed before court, lieutenant governor and Delhi Police.

It may be mentioned that as per CrPc, court can take the case involving offence against the State only after sanction from the State Home Department.

Kanhaiya Kumar and nine other accused facing sedition charges

It may be recalled that Kanhaiya Kumar and nine other accused persons are facing sedition charges for allegedly raising anti-India slogans in 2016.

Delhi Police had filed chargesheet in the court against the accused without taking nod from the State Govt.

On 23rd July, the court has asked the police to get the sanction from Delhi Govt. The case is likely to be heard on 18th September.
