Diamond robbers of Mumbai arrested from Kumbh Mela

Bandra: The 7 robbers who had decamped with diamonds worth Rs 26.91-crore from the diamond market here at Bandra Karla Complex have been arrested. Police recovered diamonds worth Rs 20 crore and cash worth Rs 38 lakh from various locations in Thane and Mumbai.

According to Inquilab, police claim that the accused hid in the ongoing Kumbh Mela in Allahabad donning seer’s attire.

At a press conference in Bandra Karla Complex police station, police officials told the reporters that the mastermind, Yatish Fichadia, 31, had good relations with the businessmen. Taking advantage of this, he along with his friends planned to rob diamond businessmen. He collected diamonds worth 26.91 Cr from various businessmen and decamped with them.

After giving the police a slip in more than 10 cities for almost two months, they hid in Kumbh Mela masquerading as seers.

According to police they were discarding SIM cards and changing their appearance every time he shifted locations. They were tracked in Delhi, Agra, Ajmer, Rajasthan, Lucknow, Bihar, Shimla, Vrindavan, Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar, Vishakhapatnam and Prayagraj. They even posed as a saint at Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, before landing in the police net earlier this week.
