Diwali:Man’s fingers partially amputated after cracker explodes

Chennai: A man lost his thumb and index finger after a country cracker exploded on his hand during Diwali celebrations hospital authorities have confirmed on Monday.

According to reports, so far 31 patients have been treated for burn injuries sustained while celebrating Diwali on Sunday, News18 reports.

The Kilpauk Government Medical College Hospital is renowned for treating such burn injuries sustained during crackers explosion.

The hospital authorities have said the 31 patients treated at the hospital suffered minor burn injuries on the day of the festival while seven among them were admitted as inpatients in view of the severity of injuries.

“This man in his mid 20s had held a country-made cracker on one hand and wanted to throw it away after lighting it; unfortunately the cracker exploded right away causing severe injuries to two of his fingers,” a senior KMCH doctor said.

He also suffered 15 per cent burn injuries and he was admitted as inpatient and both the thumb and index finger were partially amputated, the hospital authority said.
