Election Commission gives nod for TS govt to implement pay hike

Hyderabad: With the Election Commission of India (ECI) giving permission, the decks are cleared for the Telangana government to give its employees a pay hike through the Pay Revision Commission (PRC).

The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government is likely to announce the same soon. The ECI has instructed the government to follow the model code of conduct (MCC) in view of the upcoming Nagarjunasagar by-poll, to avoid politically benefiting from it through campaigns.

The state government had appealed to the Election Commission, urging it to give permission to provide the PRC to its employees as per norms and procedures. On this appeal, the ECI after a thorough examination, gave a green signal to the government for the same.

With this, state government employees are expected to get a pay revision soon, something that chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) had promised earlier. The Telangana government is likely to offer a 29 percent fitment as part of the PRC’s recommendations.

The officials are preparing the modalities in this regard, it has been learnt. ECI secretary Avinash Kumar has written a consent letter to Shashank Goel, chief electoral officer, Telangana on this regard.
