Family-sponsored US Green Card: Over 227K Indians waiting for it

Washington: Family-sponsored US Green Card is a provision under US law which allows US citizens to sponsor their family members and blood relatives. However, there is a cap of 226000 Green Cards per annum.

According to the report published in Financial Express, over 227000 Indians are waiting for the card.

Mexicans

As per the data available with the Department of Homeland Security, the highest number of applicants is from Mexico. 1.5 million Mexicans are waiting for the card.

It may be mentioned that US President, Donald Trump who had termed it ‘chain immigration’ wanted to abolish it. However, the Democratic Party is against the abolition of the provision.

Apart from it, 827000 are waiting for permanent legal residency.
