Ganja smuggling racket busted, six held in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Rachakonda police took into custody six persons on Monday for procuring ganja from Visakhapatnam and selling it in Hyderabad and Maharashtra.

The police have seized 89 ganja packets that contained a total of 130 kg of the contraband. They also seized two cars, Rs. 12,000 in cash and six cell phones. The total worth of seized property is Rs 31.62 lakh.

The accused were identified as Banoth Sudhakar, 23, Jarpula Hussain, 23, Dharavath Chiranjeevi, 29, Kambapati Nageshwara Rao, 28, Banoth Venkanna, 26, and Suresh Naik, 25.  The police said that except Suresh all other accused have been taken into custody.

Banoth Sudhakar and Jarpula Hussain were running the racket along with peddlers from Vishakhapatnam. They were buying ganja from Dharakonda of Visakhapatnam district for Rs. 2000 per kg and selling it for Rs. 7000 per kg.

The contraband was concealed in a car. The Special Operations Team of LB Nagar along with Vanasthalipuram policemen intercepted the vehicles at Auto Nagar and arrested the accused.
