GHMC appeals citizens to pay property tax by June 30 and escape penalty

Hyderabad: Stating that the GHMC has collected only 605-crore Property Tax out of Rs 1,800 crore for 2019-20 financial year, Commissioner M Dhana Kishore today appealed to the citizens to pay their outstanding tax arrears by June 30 and escape 2% per month penalty from July 1.

In a press release here today, the GHMC Commissioner said those who failed to pay their tax arrears by June 30, they will have to pay penalty of Rs 2% from July 1 on their outstanding tax arrears. The Commissioner also said for the convenience of the property holders, GHMC citizen service centers will be functioning from 8 am to 8 pm on both Sundays June 23 and 30.

Revealing the facts, the Commissioner said while there were 15,77,680 property tax payers in the city, only 5,69,454 house owners paid the tax. The remaining 10,08,226 tax payers have to pay Rs 1,195 crore to the corporation. Non-payment of property tax by the house owners on time, execution of development projects in the city was being affected, he said, adding that property tax is the only source for the GHMC projects like SRDP, Double Bed Rooms, construction of roads and other works in the Hyderabad. While the Property Tax should be paid in the starting month of the year, the citizens were paying in March of next financial year, he added.
