GHMC officials nabbed for taking bribe

Hyderabad: The Tax Inspector and the Bill Collector of GHMC, SaroorNagar Circle were nabbed by the officials of Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday for demanding and accepting a bribe amount of Rs 80,000.

According to the officials, M Ravi Prasad, the Tax Inspector of GHMC, Saroornagar Circle was caught when he demanded a bribe of Rs 80,000 through J Pochaiah, the Bill Collector of the same circle at GHMC Ward Office in Maruthi Nagar of Chaitanyapuri on Friday evening.

“The amount was demanded from Pateru Janardhan Rao alias Sai Kumar, to do an official favour to reduce the hiked tax amount by conducting re-verification and to limit the hiked tax for only one year instead of three years. Bribe amount of Rs 80,000 was recovered from the possession of Pochaiah and both hands were tested positive in chemical test*conducted by our team” said the officials, adding that the accused officers*have performed their duty improperly and dishonestly to obtain undue advantage.

The duo were placed under arrest and were produced before the Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases, Hyderabad. Further investigations are on.
