GHMC presses 500 teams to prevent stagnation of rain water

Hyderabad: The GHMC was taking major steps to tackle the situation of inundations in the city. The corporation has identified 197 major inundation points in the city, out of which, 37 were solved permanently. For the remaining 160 points, the GHMC categorized in A,B,C grades according to its situation.

For A Category points, the GHMC would install a motor pump on permanent basis along with man power and the water will be pumped out as and when water accumulated. At B category points, motor would be installed at business establishments, residential areas etc as and when inundation occurs the designated team will swing into action and pump out the water. All together, there are some 500 teams comprising various departments like, Monsoon Emergency Teams, DRF Team and Disaster Management Cell GHMC are pressed into service during Monsoon period.
The GHMC officials visited along with Laxman Rao, JNTU professor and suggestions were made that the surplus rain water can be diverted into open places by making percolation tanks near Shilparamam, Nector Gardens and Durgam Cheruvuu. Commissioner Dana Kishore and Zonal Commissioner Harichandana held a review meeting with the Engineering officials and Electricity Department on the issues of obstructions of free flow of rain water in the city.

The Commissioner instructed the officials to cut and remove the private cables which were unattended to and remove them as they are obstructing free flow of rain water. He also instructed the officials to enlarge the vents at footpaths where ever possible so that the water recedes quickly. At SRDP works, ensure that no sand and metal would be accumulated and take steps to remove barriers for free flow of water and also to put up sign boards cautioning commuters and to take safety measures of the workers at the projects where work is going on. The Commissioner instructed the officials to impose fine heavily to the offenders, who are dumping C&D material along the road side.
Later, the Commissioner and along with Zonal Commissioner Hari Chandana visited various areas of Cyberabad city and inspected the stagnation points.
