Glenn Close to star in Rob Ashford directed ‘Sunset Boulevard’ musical adaptation

Washington: Rob Ashford, the Tony-winning choreographer has been roped in to direct Paramount’s big-screen take of Broadway’s musical adaptation of the screen classic ‘Sunset Boulevard.’

Composer Andrew Lloyd Webber is one of the producers of the film adaptation of the Broadway musical, revealed The Hollywood Reporter.

Seven-time Oscar nominee, Glenn Close is all set to star in the role of the 1950 black-and-white classic that starred Gloria Swanson as Norma Desmond, a faded and deluded silent-screen star who ensnares a down-on-his-luck screenwriter (William Holden) into her fantasy of making a comeback.

A love story ensues that ends, ultimately, in tragedy. Close enacted it in Broadway in 1994, which got Close her third Tony Award. She then played the part again to great acclaim in 2016 in London and New York.

Close was loosely attached to the project since it’s been in the talk of becoming a film adaptation but nothing concrete was said as the pieces were not falling together until a director could be chosen. October is the month being eyed to begin productions.

The book and lyrics are by Don Black and Christopher Hampton and the musical features Lloyd Webber. The original production won seven Tony’s in all, some of it in the category of best musical, book and original score.
