Govt distribute 3260 kg rice, Rs 13.5 lakh among migrant workers till now

Hyderabad: In view of our break of Covid-19 virus and announcement of lock down 2 to contain the spread of virus, most of the migrant and daily wage workers were left without work. In order to, no worker would left hungry the Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao has been providing 12kg Rice free and Rs. 1500 to the 87lakhs white Ration card holders and 12kg Rice and Rs. 500 to the migrant workers said, GHMC Mayor Dr. Bonthu Rammohan Rao while distributing Rice and Rs.500 to the migrant workers in Cherlapally Division on Sunday.

As most of the developmental activities taking place in the city and in districts, people from about 10 states are working in various infrastructures activities like, constructions, roads, flyovers etc and taking part in development of state.

The Government issued orders saying that it is the responsibility of the agencies to look after the welfare of migrant workers who are working under them.

In this regard MA&UD Minister KT Rama Rao held a couple of meetings with the agencies and convinced them, that it is their responsibility to look after the well being of these migrant workers who are partners in the development of the state.

Accordingly about 1 lakh migrant workers were provided accommodation and food and other needs by the agencies at 280 work sites in and around the city.

Further, 2,71,742 were also identified as migrant works who are working on daily wage basis or at petty vendors in city and in HMDA limits.

About 3260 Metric tons of Rice distributed to them in two phases and Rs. 500 to each person to the tune of Rs.13,85,71,000 given. In order to avoid hardship due to lock down Two months Ration was also distributed to white card holders.

Further, Mayor said, many persons individually, NGOs and Organisations/ donors are distributing food and ration to the poor people, it is observed the there is lack of discipline and nobody is following social distance during distribution and there is chance getting infection of virus to the other persons and requested to the donors to contact nodal officers appointed exclusively in GHMC for receiving and distribution of food and ration to the needy and appealed the citizens to maintain social distance in containing the spread of Covid-19 virus.

Chairman Civil Supplies Corporation M.Srinivas Reddy, MLA Subash Reddy, Medchal District Collector, V. Venkateshwarlu participated in the Rice and Cash distribution programme.
