Washington/New Delhi: Bad news for H1B visa seekers as Trump administration’s restrictive immigration policies have led to a massive increase in the denial rate for the visa. Indian IT companies witnessed the highest rejection of petitions for the visas.
According to the report published in The Hans India, National Foundation for American Policy has conducted a study based on the data received from the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
The study revealed that the denial rate for the visa has jumped from six percent in 2015 to 24 percent.
Denial rate increased
In 2015, the denial rate for H1B for Amazon, Microsoft, Intel and Google was one percent which increased to six, eight, seven and three percent respectively. The rate for Tech Mahindra, TCS, Wipro and Infosys was four, six, seven and two percent. It increased to 41, 34, 53 and 45 percent respectively.
The denial rate for companies that provide IT services to other US companies is as high as 30 percent.
Priyanka Gandhi reacts
Reacting on the report, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said that this development comes after Prime Minister participated in the “Howdy-Modi” event at Houston in September, where both leaders addressed the Indian diaspora.
“Everyone should ask the BJP government the question of whose welfare is happening during its tenure. Prime Minister went to America and participated in ‘Howdy Modi’ but America is increasingly denying H-1B visas to Indians who want to work there,” tweeted Priyanka Gandhi.
“The country’s economic condition is bad. The service sector has fallen flat. Employment is decreasing. Those ruling are not bothered at all while the common people are exhausted,” she said in a subsequent tweet.
