H1B Visa: MEA discloses denial rate of new petitions

New Delhi: Giving the details about H1B Visa, External Affairs Ministry disclosed the denial rate of new petitions.

According to the report published in Live Mint, in a written reply in Rajya Sabha, Mr. V Muraleedharan, Minister of State for External Affairs said that out of 116031 new H1B petitions processed and completed in 2019, 27707 i.e., 23.9% were rejected.

As per the statistics of the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), in the Fiscal Year 2019, 84.8% of the total H-1B petitions processed and completed were approved whereas, in 2015, it was 95.7%.

It may be mentioned that an H1B visa which is a non-immigrant visa allows US companies to hire foreign employees.

Denial rate increased

According to a report published in The Hans India, in 2015, the denial rate for H1B for Amazon, Microsoft, Intel and Google was one percent which increased to six, eight, seven and three percent respectively. The rate for Tech Mahindra, TCS, Wipro and Infosys was four, six, seven and two percent. It increased to 41, 34, 53 and 45 percent respectively.

The denial rate for companies that provide IT services to other US companies is as high as 30 percent.
