Haryana: Partially blind young Imam and wife brutally killed

A partially blind Imam and his wife have been brutally murdered with sharp-edged weapons.

According to media reports, the incident took place between 11 pm and 4:30 am on Saturday night at a room adjacent to a mosque at Malik Majri in Gunwar village of District Sonipat in Haryana.

The deceased couple is identified as Imam Mohammad Irfan (40) and Yasmin (25). They had got married in Delhi last year.

No Dawn Prayer

According to reports, the Imam recites the Azaan (call to prayer) every morning at 5:00 am, but there was no azaan on Sunday morning. When the worshippers went to the imam’s room, they found severely brutalised bodies of the couple in a pool of blood.

Heated Quarrel

On Saturday night, an intense arguments had arisen between Muslims and non-Muslims over a land dispute during a group of youths had allegedly threatened him of consequences.

“There was a fight between two groups in the village on Saturday evening. Imam intervened and asked people to resolve the dispute but one of the groups threatened him of consequences. We are suspecting they might have murdered the couple,” the villagers said, according to Hindustan Times.

Blind Murder Case

Police is treating the case as ‘blind murders.’

“We are treating this as blind murder case as of now. Nothing was taken from victim’s house hence we have ruled out any robbery angle. No land dispute angle is also suspected in the case. We are investigating,” reported The Quint.

After the postmortem at the civil hospital, police handed over the bodies to the family members.

A case has been registered against unidentified persons and a few youths have been taken into police custody.

Noteworthy, a year ago an elderly Motakif was also murdered inside the mosque.
