Health survey mistaken for NRC; Muslims boycot

Karnataka: The Health and Family Welfare department conducts an Annual Community Based Survey (CBS) every year in the urban areas.

When this CBS is conducted in Karnataka, the residents of Galipura, Chamarajanagar city boycott it, mistaking it to be the survey of National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Majority of the residents in the area belong to Muslim community. They misunderstand the CBS survey to NRC Survey and got in arguments with the workers.

The Asha workers have the responsibility of collecting information which includes Aadhaar number, residential address, details of family members, health problems and others.

According to the Deccan Herald report, fifteen Asha workers were deputed for the survey in the layout. A few youths started questioning them alleging it to be an NRC survey and started arguing with them. They even tore the forms into pieces.

The Health and Family Welfare officer, Dr C Ravi and Tahsildar cleared the confusion with the help of Muslim leaders. The leaders assured to extend support to the survey and will explain it to the residents of their area.
