Hyderabad: 17-yr-old falls into manhole; official suspended

Hyderabad: A 17-month-old boy fell into an open manhole in Mahaveer Yadav Nagar of Gudimalkapur in Hyderabad. The boy was identified as Deekshit. The incident happened when he was playing and accidentally slipped and fell into the manhole.

The infant was soon shifted to the nearby Niloufer hospital for treatment and is said to be in critical condition. An immediate compensation of Rs 25,000 is being given. Mehdipatnam Section Manager D Chandran of waterboard was suspended for negligence after an inquiry was initiated by HMWSSB MD Dana Kishore.

During the investigation, it was found that delay in the completion of the manhole repair works by the contractor, as well as the lack of barricades and precautionary measures at the site resulted in the incident.
