Hyderabad encounter: Centre seeks report

Hyderabad: In the wake of the Telangana police allegedly encountered four accused in the sensational gang-rape and murder case of veterinary doctor Disha at Chatanpally near Shamshabad on Friday morning hours, the Centre sought a report on the same.

According to the information, Union Home Ministry directed the State government and the police to submit a report on the encounter and the case. It is routine that the Centre seeks reports from the States with regard to encounters. 

The police have to submit details to the Centre of the same on getting post-mortem reports. 

The police said they encountered the accused in self-defence when the latter tried to flee with their guns during reconstruction of scene of offence near Shamshabad wherein they set on fire Disha to death after rape and murder last week. The women’s organizations,

NCW chief Rekha, political leaders and film personalities praised the police for the encounter of the four accused. MRPS leader Manda Krishna Madiga asked the State government to set up fast track court to conduct trial of accused in similar incidents in which some upper class people involved. 

  The State government has set up a fast track court to try the culprits in the Disha case followed by widespread protests in the State and the country. Many people demanded capital punishment to the killers of Disha in the case. Family members of Disha expressed satisfaction on the encounter, while the kin of victims, who were done to death in Warangal and Komram Bhim districts, too sought similar encounters. 

Reacting on the encounter, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said the police have done a good job. What they will do if accused try to escape, he felt. Cricketer Harbhajan Singh and film industry hailed the police for the encounter. Former Union minister P Chidambaram sought inquiry into the encounter of Disha case culprits. The CPI State leadership asked the fast track courts to deliver speedy justice in such cases.
