Hyderabad: Gang from UP held for burglaries

Hyderabad: The Special Operation Team (SOT) of the Cyberabad Police and officers of Madhapur Zone have arrested a 4 member gang from Uttar Pradesh for burglaries under the Cyberabad commissionerate limits. Officials recovered valuables worth Rs 35 lakh from their possession.

The arrested persons were identified as Aditya Kumar, 34, Munniraj Rajaura, 47, Surendra Kumar Sharma, 63, and Pankaj Chowdary, 32. While Aditya, Surendra and Pankaj hail from Uttar Pradesh, Munniraj is from Uttarakhand. Munniraj had met the trio when he had come to UP to visit his grandmother’s native place, said the Police. Officials investigating the case said that the gang had been breaking into houses since 2015 and was nabbed for the first time by the Cyberabad police.

Officials have been able to identify 10 cases where the gang involved in burglaries in Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. Police are enquiring further as their involvement in various cases seems imminent. “In a year, the members of this gang go about their daily work everyday and go about their regular business.

However, once a year, they leave their homes on the pretext of meeting friends and come to south India to commit burglaries. They use either of their two SUV’s, an Innova or a Brezza, travel to different southern states in those cars and recee the localities they target,” said V C Sajjanar. “During their night stops on their journey to southern states, they stay at luxurious hotels before resuming their journey in the morning.

During their night stay at these hotels, Munniraj checks out potential places that the gang can target on Google Maps. He identifies posh and well populated areas that the rich prefer to live in and zeros in on localities that the gang will target the next day” added the official.

Of the 10 cases identified so far, 7 are in Telangana with 5 identified in Cyberabad commissionerate, 1 in Sangareddy and 1 in Karimnagar and 1 case each from Ongole in Andhra Pradesh, Kancheepuram in Tamilnadu and Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh.

Police have recovered gold ornaments weighing 600 grams, Silver items weighing 02 KGs and two four wheelers, all worth Rs. 35 lakh from their possession. The gang was produced before a court that remanded them to judicial custody while an investigation is further on into the exploits of the gang.
