Hyderabad: GHMC gets Robotic Machinary to clean manholes

Hyderabad: GHMC Mayor Bonthu Rammohan  inaugurated Robotic Machinery which cleans Manholes and removes blockages, without involvement of manual work here on Tuesday. 

Presently the manholes were cleaned with the deployment of manual labour, and the workers are affected with health problems. Since the nature of work is hazardous the workers are facing problems on their health, sometimes it leads to fatal.

To avoid manual cleaning of manholes, the GHMC introduced the Robotic Machinery to clean manholes thus avoiding risk to lives of the workers.

The robotic machinary has been sponsored by M/s.Raheja under Corporate Social Responsibility which costs 32 lakhs.

GHMC Mayor inaugurated the Robotic Machinery work at Ghouse CafĂ©, Serilingampally, speaking on the occasion Mayor said as part of making Hyderabad into a Global City, the GHMC introducing latest technology and infrastructure in sanitation wing. In this regard sweeping machine vehicles, air tech machines for cleaning sewerage lines already introduced.  

The Robotic machinery can clean the manholes upto 30 ft deep and introduced in the West Zone, based on the performance the machinery will be introduced in other Zones. It is a good sign that the Corporates  are coming forward and taking part in making the city a livable city he added.    

At present around 30,000 Manholes are in GHMC limits, in core city the maintenance of Manholes is done by HMWS&SB and in surrounding Municipalities by GHMC.

Zonal Commissioner (West Zone) M/s. Hari Chandan said there are 7,000 manholes in West Zone, having depth of 4 to 5 meters. The manholes are cleaned by the Robotic Machine, which is having 4 camera monitored through screen. MLA Arikepudi Gandhi, Corporator Jagdishwar Goud and others participated in the programme.
