Hyderabad: Government job fraud on the rise

Secunderabad: Several job scams running in an around the city have caused menace in the city with many job seekers falling prey to these fraudsters.

What’s worse, apart from luring youngsters with general employment, several of these victims are also falling prey to government jobs, TOI reports.

The city cops are looking into several job scams from Secunderabad and adjoining areas.

“There have been instances of offenders luring victims by saying that they have good contacts within government departments such as railways or defence. As Secunderabad covers the cantonment area and consists of the South Central Railway(SCR), people tend to believe it,” said a police officer from North Zone.

In a recent case, a person who had earlier worked as a railway employee duped victims on the pretext of providing them jobs in railways.

In a recent case, a 35-year-old victim from Malkajgiri was duped of Rs 3 lakh on the pretext of a government job in railways.

The victim believing this paid Rs 1.1 lakh in May in three instalments after the perpetrator made him believe the deal is real, authentic by conducting medical check-ups.

When the accused failed to give him the joining dates  even after several times, the victim approached the police and filed a complaint.

“A cousin who was preparing for a government job was offered a back-door entry in Metro Rail in December last year. The person claimed to have good contacts in L&T and other departments. But when we insisted on a meeting with his contacts at Metro Rail just to be sure, later he stopped picking up calls. We then realised that this was a scam,” said B Hareesh, a resident of Old Alwal.

Similar online, offline job scams have been on the rise in the city over the past two years said the officials.

“Irrespective of whether it is a part-time job or a position at a multi-national company, victims fall into the trap, as offenders hav developed ways to make the offer seem authentic. Some o even provide offer letters or conduct fake tests to make the offer look genuine. They take money on the pretext of registration and other charges,” said ACP Harinath, cybercrime, Rachakonda.
