Hyderabad: Hindu boy beaten in Old City for roaming with Muslim girl

The FIR registered against the five Muslim youth mentions that they had attacked Kartik with knives, iron rods, sticks and tortured him.

Hyderabad: Five Muslim youths have been booked by the Rein Bazar police for allegedly beating up a Hindu boy for dating a Muslim girl. The police have registered a case of attempt to murder, kidnapping and extortion against the accused persons.

Nineteen-year-old S Karthik, a resident of L B Nagar, had come to SRT colony at Yakutpura on May 11 to meet his girlfriend staying in the old city. The couple were in a relationship for the last five months and both reportedly were acquainted on Instagram.

Karthik used the mobile phone of a pan shop owner to call his girlfriend and asked her to come near the pan shop . While Kartik met his girlfriend, who happened to be a Muslim girl, the assaulters (Ikram, Mohammed, Nayeem, Sohail and two others) reached there and raised objection to the couple meeting in the area, and later picked up a quarrel with them.

The FIR has been registered against the five Muslim youth, in which it is alleged that they had attacked Kartik with knives, iron rods, sticks and tortured him during which he received injuries on his body.

The accused had allegedly made an extortion call to Narasimha Goud, the father of Kartik and demanded fifty thousand rupees over the phone. They also allegedly kidnapped Kartik from the spot and while trying to take him to another place, he escaped and reached home. He later lodged a complaint with the Rein Bazaar police.

“We have registered a case under various sections of IPC and investigation is under way,” said A. Madhusudhan Reddy, detective inspector of Rein Bazar police station.
