Hyderabad: Infant’s death at Niloufer hospital creates furore

Hyderabad: Death of an infant at the city-based Niloufer government children’s hospital at Nampally created a furore today. Parents alleged that the child died due to the administration of an injunction by a nurse of the hospital. The child was brought to the hospital from Nagarkurnool district on February 28.

The child was born in July last year and weighed only one kg at the time of its birth. She passed away at 6 am in the Nilofer hospital today.

The parents of the victim staged a protest. Responding to the protest, doctors of the hospital said children with less weight would not witness development of their organs and added that they kept the child on the support of oxygen ever since she was admitted at their hospital.

The doctors said the parents of the child were levelling baseless allegations against them as they were in the shock of the death of their child. Superintendent of the hospital Dr Murali Krishna said 50 percent of underweight children die after their birth.
