Hyderabad: Man committed suicide; kin held by police

Hyderabad: a 75-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself in his house.

According to the TOI report, the victim, identified as D. Jagannatham, a resident of NMDC Colony in Malkajgiri was duped by his relatives in a land deal.

According to the police, six persons from his relative had purchased land in Musheerabad between 2000-2004 for which they paid him Rs 6.1 lakh and signed an agreement of sale with him.

A Manmohan, Malkajgiri inspector said, “In 2010, the registration has done and at the time of registration, they have mentioned Rs 29 lakh as the plot value in the document.

By the end of 2018, the victim received a notice from the Income Tax department for the explanation for selling the plot for 29 lakh and declaring the receipt of Rs 6.1 lakh in IT returns. When Jagannathan confronted the accused with IT notice, they did not respond to him properly.

“As Jagannathan had to pay Rs 3.5 lakh to IT as a penalty, he committed suicide by hanging himself to a ceiling fan and left a suicide note saying Sekharaiah, his 3 sons, and 2 other relatives are responsible for his death,” said the inspector.

On Sunday, police arrested all the accused under section 306 of Indian Panel Code (IPC).
