Hyderabad: Man duped woman of Rs 10.8 lakh

Hyderabad: A city based woman was duped by a cyber-fraudster to the tune of 10 lakh.

According to the Deccan Chronicle report, the victim who is a resident of LB Nagar befriended Vijay Singh on Instagram. They got in touch on Instagram in May 2019 and he claimed to be a doctor living abroad.

Later, he proposed her to marry, she agreed and asked him to visit India for the wedding.

Vijay agreed to her and told her that he would be visiting Scotland to perform surgery and would return soon.

A few days later, he informed her that he had sent some gifts like a gold chain, iPhone, a laptop and an Ipad through courier and shared pictures with her, telling her that the courier would reach New Delhi from where she has to pick them up.

After that she receives calls from a stranger claiming to be a customs officer at IGI airport in Delhi, asking her to deposit money to release the parcel.

She is unaware of the fraud, deposited about Rs 10.8 lakh in five bank accounts which were provided to her.

They asked her to pay more 5 lakhs in the account, upon which she realised that she is being cheated and then complained to Rachakonda cyber crime police on Monday.

Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC and IT Act.
