Hyderabad: Man held for duping victims in guise of real estate

A case has been registered against the accused under section 66C (Punishment for identity theft) of the IPC and 66D of the IT Act.

Hyderabad: A man was arrested by the Cybercrime police of Rachakonda for allegedly duping victims in the name of the real estate business on Saturday.

According to the police, the accused was identified as Salabadi Nagaraju (38), a resident of Nalakondapally Mandal, Khammam district. A total of 15 cases have been registered against the arrested person.

A complaint was registered by Kota Narsimha Reddy, resident of LB Nagar, Ranga Reddy district. In the complaint, he stated that he received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number in April claiming the sale of the property.

In the name of advance booking the accused first asked the victim to transfer 11,200 rupees and later he asked for an additional Rs 41,200. After some time he asked the victim for a higher amount. The victim then denied to pay any more money and asked for a refund, following which Salabadi Nagaraju stopped answering his calls and messages.

According to the police, the accused is a habitual offender.

A case has been registered against the accused under section 66C (Punishment for identity theft) of the IPC and 66D IT Act (by means of any communication device or computer resource cheats by personation, shall be punished with imprisonment).
